Last week was the week from hell.
To keep it short and sweet…
My oldest daughter was rushed to the ER on Monday and Tuesday. After two separate days of consulting with doctors and them doing test after test, they finally come to the conclusion that she was taking too much seizure medication and it was causing some really bad side effects.
They cut back her dosage and everything seems to be just fine now, other than she still has seizures but that’s a whole other story that will hopefully be fixed later this week.
Anyway….while we’re at the hospital one of these two days, I’m not sure which day it is, my husband and son leave the room where my daughter was to get a drink or make a phone call or something. A few minutes later a nurse popped her head around the door, looks at me for a split second then turns to my daughter and the following conversation took place:
Nurse: (to my daughter) "Where is your father?"
My daughter: "I don’t know"
Me: "He went down the hall for a minute…Did you need something?:
Nurse: "I have some information for him when he gets back."
Me: "Is it something I can help you with?"
Nurse: (smartass attitude ) "I need to speak to one of her parents, not an older sister."
Me: "Well I am her other parent"
Nurse: (stupid look on her face and snide comment)…"No you’re not"
Me: "Yes I am"
Nurse: (To my daughter)…"Is she really your mother?"
My daughter: (laughs) "Yes, she really is"
Nurse: (Face ten shades of red) "I’m sorry, I thought you were her older sister"
Me: "Well I’m not. What did you need?"
Nurse: "Tell him to call….umm…your mother…no his mother…yeah…his mother……your mother-in-law"
What the hell was so important and top secret about relaying that message that she couldn’t have told either my daughter or her ‘older sister’?
I really don’t know why this stupid little conversation has bugged the hell out of me all week but it has.
Don’t get me wrong…..I take the age compliments in stride and I am glad that I don’t look my age or even better, I’m glad I don’t look MORE than my age but there are times when it gets to be a pain in the ass.
The hospital and that nurse being one of those times.
She pissed me off when she didn’t believe me even after I told her who I was. She had to confirm it from my daughter. Then when I found out WHAT the message was, I was even more irritated by the whole thing. I didn’t realize returning a phone call had become top secret life threatening information.
Maybe I’m just looking for something to vent my frustration out on and that seems like a good place to do it for now.
I really have had my fill of stupid ass people though.
