 Ooopsss.......
Back to Full Blog

My youngest daughter had her first (and hopefully only) incident while driving. Luckily, we were very close to home.

The driveway

She went to pull out of the driveway and didn't quite make it like she was supposed to so the mailbox did a slide by down the side of the truck It put a nice white stripe (on a blue truck) down the side almost the length of the bed.

She kept apologizing and saying she was never going to drive again but we both know that was just runoff of the mouth.

In the end, the paint came off but there is a faint scratch all the way down the side of the truck but it's better than the glowing white stripe that was there and at least it was just a mailbox and she did leave the mailbox standing so all was not lost

If that's all she ever does while driving then she's already done better than I have

Tell her it happens to the best of drivers. I see minor stuff like that all the time at work. She's just got to learn to watch all the mirrors & look all around while judging distance. I'm glad it was at your own house!

Have a great weekend, Sybil

Aside from the mailbox ordeal, she's a very good driver. She just didn't make a wide enough swing coming out of our driveway and the mailbox was being stubborn and refused to move

Awwww well she could have done alot worse and at least the truck wasn't damaged too badly. Speaking of mailboxes.. ours was just obliverated tonight by a drunk driver. Took out ours and two other neighbors mailboxes too and alot of yard damage. We had to file a report because the damage was pretty bad. The dude hit and moved a boulder about three foot with his car. He's got a ton of damage too and unfortunately he took off. The cops have a large chunk of his car that was left in the street. Oh well... another interesting Saturday night.

Teenagers are hard on cars.

I totalled my first car only 2 weeks after getting my license.

Have a great weekend!

Hi PolarB

Yes, it could've been much worse so we just laugh the mailbox thing off as to live and learn, a little on the hard way but a lesson learned.

I feel your pain on the mailbox and property destruction. I've lost count of how many mailboxes we've had to put up in the past 16 years. If it's not some group of destructive kids thinking that bashing mailboxes is funny then it's someone that can't stay on the road and it's always OUR mailbox that takes the beating. Not to mention that Hubby has knocked it down a few times due to trying to get dumptrucks in and out of our driveway We no longer even try to keep any form of landscaping around the area anymore. It's pointless

Hey Randy

I lost my license for 6 months after only 2 months of having them at 16 so if the only thing my daughter does is scrape a mailbox then I'll be happy

"RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU EVER TOTALED YOU MOM AND DAD'S MAILBOX"

*rubble raises her hand.*

GOOD NEWS...since having my license (since '77)...I've never done it again! In fact, I'm still a "safe driver" some 30 plus years later...

Hey, I'm not saying I've been perfect...just never was caught doing anything really stoooopid!

But yeh....the mailbox trick...been there, done that...totally flattened ours!

It's a rite of passage, isn't it!???

Hey Rubble

I wish I could say that a mailbox is the ONLY thing I've demolished

As far as rite of passage..........yep.......she sure got hers and a silly story to tell later in life

Hi Sybil,
With in 3 months both my daughter's totaled a car they had their license's for about 6 months each. My oldest daughter was scared to drive so they both got their license's about the same time. Thank goodness they both weren't hurt, they scared me good.

Hi Night Sparrow

Thank goodness your girls weren't hurt. Hopefully the incident with the mailbox will be the ONLY incident when it comes to driving that I'll have to worry about with my kids but I know that's not the end of it.
